Make your Screentide rules hard to switch off in a weak moment. For why commitment devices work, and the options that need no app, read How to Stop Switching Off Your Own Restrictions.
You’ll need: nothing extra. The free plan includes one Rule editing challenge. With Gold, you can require several in a row.
Add a challenge
- Open Enforcement Protection and go to Rule editing challenges.
- Tap Add challenge and pick one of the options below, from gentle to strict.
| Challenge | How it works | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Cooldown | Editing unlocks after a timer, such as 10 to 15 minutes. | Letting the urge pass. |
| Battery charge state | Editing only works while charging, or only while not charging. | Pairing with a charger in another room. |
| Restart device | Editing unlocks for a short window after a phone restart. | Adding a real interruption, not a tap. |
| PIN code | Someone else sets the PIN and keeps it. | Accountability with a partner or housemate. |
| Authenticator Code | Your partner scans a QR code into any authenticator app, and only their rotating 6-digit code unlocks editing. | The strictest option. They don’t need Screentide. |
PIN and Authenticator Code both have a reset delay, so you can’t just reset them in a weak moment.
Go stricter with Gold
- Stack challenges: for example, a cooldown followed by your partner’s code.
- Tamper Prevention: makes it much harder to uninstall Screentide or disable it in Android settings.
