Legal
Screentide Terms and Conditions
Effective date:
These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your download and use of the Screentide Android application (the “App”) and related services available through screentide.app.
By downloading, purchasing or using Screentide, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
1. About Screentide
Screentide is a local-first screen time information and management tool. It can display device-usage information and apply rules, triggers and interventions selected by you.
Screentide does not provide medical, psychological, legal or other professional advice. It is not an emergency, safety-critical, parental-control, employee-monitoring or device-security service, and must not be relied upon as one.
2. Eligibility
You must be legally capable of agreeing to these Terms. If you are under the age at which you can enter a binding contract where you live, you may use Screentide only with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian.
You must have authority to install and configure Screentide on the device you use. You must not use the App to monitor another person or their device without all consent and authority required by law.
3. Licence
Subject to these Terms and any applicable app-store rules, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use Screentide on devices you own or control for lawful, non-commercial purposes.
Screentide and its content, branding, designs and software are owned by us or our licensors. Except where applicable law or an open-source licence permits it, you must not:
- copy, sell, sublicense, rent, distribute or commercially exploit the App;
- reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to extract its source code;
- bypass purchase, entitlement, security or technical restrictions;
- interfere with the App or use it to harm a person, device, service or network; or
- use Screentide unlawfully or in a way that infringes another person’s rights.
Third-party and open-source components remain subject to their respective licences.
4. Permissions and device access
Screentide requires Android Accessibility access for core real-time foreground-app and supported-browser domain detection and for timely rule enforcement. The App may request other permissions or special access for features you choose, including Usage Access, display over other apps, background operation, notifications, Notification Access, VPN, location and Device Administrator access.
You decide whether to grant these permissions. You understand that:
- Android may display warnings because these permissions provide broad device capabilities;
- Screentide cannot provide a feature when its required permission is missing;
- revoking permissions, force-stopping the App, device settings, battery management, operating-system updates or other software may delay, interrupt or defeat enforcement;
- some permissions may affect device behaviour while enabled; and
- you are responsible for reviewing a feature before relying on it.
Our Privacy Policy explains how Screentide handles information accessed through these permissions.
5. Rules and interventions
Rules and interventions are configured by you and operate subject to Android, device-manufacturer restrictions, granted permissions, network conditions and technical limitations.
We do not guarantee that a rule will activate, remain active, block every application, website, notification or network request, or be impossible to bypass. You should test important configurations. Do not rely on Screentide to prevent access where failure could cause injury, loss, unlawful conduct or another serious consequence.
Some interventions may obscure content, interrupt app use, suppress notifications, reduce network performance, create a local VPN connection or make it more difficult to stop or remove Screentide. You are responsible for selecting appropriate settings and retaining any information or access you may need.
6. Local data and backups
Screentide stores its core data locally on your device and does not create a Screentide account. You are responsible for your device, local data and backups.
The export feature can create a file containing potentially sensitive information, including screen time history, websites, rules, schedules, locations and preferences. After export, the file is outside Screentide’s control. You are responsible for:
- storing and transferring it securely;
- preventing unauthorised access;
- checking that a backup is complete and usable;
- maintaining copies where appropriate; and
- deleting it when no longer required.
We do not host exported backups, cannot recover lost App data or exports, and are not responsible for loss or disclosure caused by how an exported file is stored or shared, except to the extent responsibility cannot lawfully be excluded.
7. Purchases
In-app purchases are offered through the applicable app store and managed with RevenueCat. Prices, taxes, payment processing, refunds and purchase availability may be governed by the app store’s terms and displayed purchase conditions.
A purchase grants only the entitlement described at the time of purchase. It does not transfer ownership of the App. You must not share, manipulate or misrepresent purchase credentials or entitlement data.
Use the App’s restore-purchases function where available. Refund requests must generally be made through the store that processed the purchase, subject to your rights under applicable law.
We may change free features, paid features or prices prospectively. We will not knowingly remove a paid entitlement in a way that overrides rights you have under applicable law or the purchase terms presented to you.
8. Third-party services
Screentide uses third-party services, including:
- RevenueCat for purchases and entitlements;
- Wiredash for feedback you choose to submit;
- PostHog for product analytics, which you can disable in Screentide’s settings; and
- Google Play and Android services for distribution and device functionality.
Your use of those services may also be governed by their terms and privacy policies. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party services, outages, changes or handling of information, except to the extent applicable law provides otherwise.
9. Updates, availability and changes
We may update, modify, suspend or discontinue all or part of Screentide. Updates may change features, permissions, compatibility or system requirements. You are responsible for installing updates where needed for security, compatibility and reliable operation.
We do not promise that Screentide will always be available, error-free or compatible with every Android version, device, app, browser, website or network. Beta or experimental features may be incomplete and may change or be withdrawn.
10. Feedback
If you submit suggestions, ideas or other feedback, you grant us a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free right to use and incorporate that feedback to improve Screentide, without an obligation to compensate you. This does not transfer ownership of personal information included in your feedback, which is handled under our Privacy Policy.
Do not submit content you do not have the right to share.
11. Consumer guarantees and disclaimers
Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee, right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded, including rights that may apply under the Australian Consumer Law.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, and subject to those non-excludable rights:
- Screentide is provided “as is” and “as available”;
- we exclude warranties or representations not expressly stated in these Terms;
- we do not warrant uninterrupted, secure or error-free operation, perfect usage measurement or successful enforcement; and
- you assume the risks associated with the rules, interventions and permissions you configure.
Where we are permitted to limit a remedy for breach of a non-excludable guarantee, our liability is limited, at our option, to supplying the relevant services again or paying the cost of having them supplied again.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, exemplary or consequential loss, loss of data, loss of profits, loss of opportunity, device or network disruption, or unauthorised access to an exported backup arising from or connected with Screentide.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability arising from or connected with the App is limited to the greater of:
- the amount you paid for Screentide in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim; or
- AUD $10.
These limitations do not apply to liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
13. Suspension and termination
You may stop using Screentide at any time and may uninstall it after disabling any access that Android requires you to deactivate first.
We may suspend or terminate access to online or paid services if you materially breach these Terms, misuse the App, commit fraud, or where required by law. Termination does not remove rights or obligations that accrued beforehand. Sections intended by their nature to survive termination will continue to apply.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms to reflect changes to Screentide, third-party services or law. We will publish updated Terms at screentide.app and change the effective date. Where a change materially affects your rights, we will provide reasonable notice where practical.
Your continued use after updated Terms take effect constitutes acceptance to the extent permitted by law. If you do not accept an update, you must stop using the App.
15. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of South Australia, Australia. Courts with jurisdiction in South Australia may hear disputes, without limiting any rights you have to bring a claim in another forum under applicable consumer law.
16. General
If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, it will be read down or severed to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will continue.
A delay in enforcing a right is not a waiver. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms without our consent. We may transfer our rights and obligations as part of a sale, restructure or transfer of Screentide, subject to applicable law.
These Terms, the Privacy Policy and any purchase terms presented to you form the agreement concerning your use of Screentide.
